CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, July 16, 2010 - Rain had the final word last evening as the best of three finals commenced in the female cricket league on Nevis.
In the first scheduled encounter, in the bottom four match up, Super Rockers won the toss and batted versus St.James’ and managed 67 for 3 from their 12 allotted overs. Olinda Elliot was 14 not out and Skipper Jasmine Herbert 8 not out. Earlier, Camella Lawrence got 9 and Blondina Griffin 8. There were 22 extras.
For St.James’, Judy Morton got 2 wickets for 6 runs and Junella Burke 1 for 16.
St.James’ in response were off to an impressive start and were 25 for 1 from just 3 overs when the rains came. The wicket to fall went with the score on 5 but Judy Morton and Angel Leader were both batting impressively when the rain came. Both were on 12 not out. Myrthlyn Elliot so far, has 1 for 15.
Vice President of the Nevis Crciket Association Cartwright Farrell indicated that when he called for help to assist with the placing of the covers, none was forthcoming. After much deliberation, play was called off for the night.
President of the Nevis Cricket Association, Ronald Powell has since indicated that the match will resume on Monday night—19th July, followed immediately by the top four finals clash between Highlights Int and Empire.
The second evening of the best of three finals will be on Tuesday 20th July and if needs be, the final round of matches will be on Thursday 22nd July 2010.
