First awardee of the Rotary Club of Liamuiga Police Service Award receives plaque, cash

(L-R) Past President Laverne Caines, Corporal Dexter Jacobs, Rotarian RC Wu and President Eustace Warner
Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 17, 2010 (Rotary Club of Liamuiga) - At the recent Installation dinner of the Rotary Clubs of Liamuiga and St. Kitts, a member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force was the recipient of an honorary award. No 344 Acting Corporal Dexter Jacobs received the first ever Rotary Club of Liamuiga Police Service Award.

The Award consisting of a plaque and a cheque in the amount of EC$1,000 was jointly presented by Past President Laverne Caines, President Eustace Warner and Rotarian RC Wu. The idea of an award came out of a discussion at a Rotary meeting earlier in the year centered around crime and the need to incentivize police officers whose work involved them with anti-crime initiatives at a community and national level.

A former Police Officer in his native Taiwan, Rotarian RC was in the forefront of the recommendation that our Club did something to tangibly encourage local Police Officers.

From that discussion the Club compiled a handbook detailing the requirements for such an award which was subsequently presented to the high command of the Police Force.

In a commentary provided before the award was presented, Past President Laverne Caines informed that the Award was a public acknowledgment of the professionalism and service of a Police Officer in St. Kitts since the Club was based in St. Kitts.

To be eligible the nominee had to be active in the police force, not in breach of discipline within the past twelve months and below the rank of Inspector. The three selection criteria which were critical for nomination were central to a strong work ethic, professionalism and community involvement.

As the Award will be an annual one, the Club will like to encourage qualifying Police Officers to aspire to winning next year’s Award.
