Born on the 27th of November, 1989, the last child of Imelda Grante and Vernol Browne, the Sagittarius Gem has grown to become a vibrant, energetic, self determined individual who finds comfort in helping young children and motivating others to achieve their goals. Her dream and aspiration, is to become a trained primary school teacher and as a first step in that noble direction she is presently employed at the Charlestown Primary School with the Nevis Island Administration Education Division. This gives her the opportunity to get personally initiated into the field she desires to make her life – long profession.
Apart from being an optimist and bursting at the seams with the love of life, she marvels in the joy of meeting and interacting with new persons and would one day value the privilege of being able to see the world of different cultures. Verna is an avid reader and possesses an innate love for music, dance and netball.
Her educational journey began at age 4 at the Brown Hill Pre-School and the Gingerland Primary School. At age 12, having been successful at the Test of Standards, Verna began her secondary education at the Gingerland Secondary School and attained 6 O’Levels subjects and graduated from the Charlestown Secondary Sixth Form College with 4 A’Levels subjects.
Her studies did not preclude her involvement in community activities. She became a member of H.O.P.E Nevis Incorporated in 2008, where she quickly found her place among other individuals who believe in the greater good of seeing others excel. Her work in HOPE Nevis Incorporated has helped the group grow in its dynamism and ability to assist others.
As a strong and positive contestant in this year’s Miss Culture Pageant, she encourages youths to set goals and a have a positive outlook on life and its principles, developing leadership qualities and a sense of love and respect for each other. Be self sufficient and divert their attention from the negative influences affecting our society. She also encourages every woman to stand fast and strong as they continue to aspire and advises “Leadership and Empowerment for women is a key issue: We women, we are everything”
