BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – NEWS coming out of Tortola informed that five contestants will be competing in the Miss BVI Pageant, which will be held at the Sir Rupert Briercliff Hall in Tortola on Sunday, August 1, 2010.

Initially, all hopes were lost for the staging of the event which was heading for cancellation due to insufficient contestants.
According to BVI News Online, there was only one available contestant following the disqualification of one and the dropping out of two other potential contestants.

However, due to the involvement of the Minister for Education and Culture, Andre Fahie, who gave direct assistance, the pageant will still be staged.
Among the contestants is last year’s First Runner-up Jasmine Perez, who will be coming stronger to take the crown.

The other contestants are Cindy Maduro, Shauma Fahie, Sheroma Hodge and Shevon Gumbs.
Two of the categories were also revised because there would not be enough time for the contestants to prepare.

Instead of the national wear the contestants will don outfits depicting the theme for this year’s festival. The online news media also indicated that for the Talent segment, the contestants would either perform a song or recite a poem, or through other means of art to sell the BVI.

Minister Fahie also said that the Queen Show was synonymous with the festival, and to break a 50 year-old tradition was not acceptable.
