BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - EMPLOYEES of Brimstone Hill Fortress were in for a surprise this morning (Jul. 23) when they arrived at work and found two gates of the premises vandalised.
According to Joseph Woodley, Park Manager of Brimstone Hill, it is believed that an individual or individuals had attempted to breach the security of the Fortress but may have been disrupted by someone or something during the process.
Woodley said that maintenance workers, who normally arrive 7:00 a.m. at work, noticed that the lock on the gate at the entrance of the Fortress was forcibly removed and the main gate was removed from its fixed position, while its locking device was dug out from the stone wall.
He however stated that no item or equipment was missing and none of the buildings on the premises was breached.
The Park Manager said that he notified the Sandy Point Police Station of the incident and a number of officers were quickly dispatched to the scene.
He added that they took statements from the maintenance workers and indicated that further investigations into the matter would be done.
