Petition case exposes Cedric Liburd's dishonesty

Defeated Labour Party Candidate Cedric Liburd
PAM Secretariat

Basseterre, St.Kitts, July 23rd 2010 (PAM Secretariat Press Release) - At the High Court on Friday defeated former Labour MP Cedric Liburd was exposed for his dishonesty. During rigorous cross-examination by Terence V. Byron, Counsel for the Hon. Eugene Hamilton, Liburd confessed that he had no knowledge or evidence to support his allegations that Hamilton is a US Citizen and holder of a US Passport and thus a dual-citizen.

It was uncovered during cross-examination that Mr. Liburd could not produce evidence of any address whatsoever in the US where Mr. Hamilton supposedly lived. Liburd also could not produce any evidence of whether Mr. Hamilton travelled to the US between 2003 and 2008, or how long Mr. Hamilton ever stayed in the US. He also could not produce any evidence of whether Mr. Hamilton pays any taxes in the US or has a Social Security number. Also, Mr. Liburd admitted that he knows that Mr. Hamilton has never worked in the United States of America.

This illustrated the frivolous and vexatious nature of Cedric Liburd’s challenge and adds credence to Hamilton’s contention that the Petition amounts to nothing more than political harassment. “I am quite satisfied with today’s proceedings as it solidifies my position that this case brought by my defeated opponent Cedric Liburd is part of the Labour Party’s persistent smear campaign which began even before I was successful at the January 25th polls. What was most troubling to me was that this frivolous challenge was made at the expense of the taxpayers of this country who are already faced with a depressed economy and the recent announcement of an upcoming 17% VAT tax.”

The office of the Attorney General took over the handling of the Petition when it intervened “in the public interest”. Dr. Lloyd Barnett of Jamaica was brought to St. Kitts to argue on behalf of the Attorney General. The AG’s office is fully funded by the taxpayers of St. Kitts and Nevis.
