St. Kitts-Nevis U-17 Male footballers bounce back big

In second game vs. French St. Martin in the FIFA's 2011 U-17 World Cup Qualifiers in Antigua & Barbuda

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 24, 2010 (SKNFA Press Release) - On a serious mission to qualify for the second (2nd) stage of the FIFA's 2011 Under 17 (U 17) World Cup Qualifiers, the St. Kitts-Nevis Male U 17 footballers trounced French St. Martin in a one (1) sided affair on Friday 23rd July, at the Standford Grounds, in St. Johns, Antigua.

Giovanni Claxton opened the scoring for the Sugar Boyz' U 17 in the 26th minute and the lead was immediately doubled in the 27th minute by Vidal Hendrickson. Glenroy Samuel gave the Kitti-Nevisians a 3-0 lead in the 36th minute, and he again put the game out of the reach of the French St. Martin's team just at the end of the first (1st) half, in the 45th minute.

Realising that only one (1) team will progress from this four (4) team zone and it is very likely that the winner of the zone may be determined by goal difference, after allowing Antigua & Barbuda to come back and draw the game 2-2 in the ninety third (93rd) minute of their first game on Wednesday night, Coach All Edwards no doubt would have instilled the need for this players to score more goals, and more goals they scored in the second (2nd) half.

In the 60th minute Donroy Liburd made it a handful and Dahjal Kelly brought up the half dozen in the 65th minute.

French St Martin were not intent to just lie down and take a licking and they gained a consolation goal in the 70th minute to make the score 6-1.

Just when everyone thought that the St. Kitts-Nevis U 17's would have been happy with a five (5) goal cushion, Austin Henry slammed one in the old onion bag in the 79th minute and at the end of the ninety (90) minutes, St. Kitts-Nevis soared to the top of the table with a 7-1 victory.

Coach Edwards and his Technical team will now not only be expecting to beat Anguilla in their third (3rd) and final match in this zone on Sunday 25th at 5.00 pm, but also by an even greater margin. At the same time he will be keeping his fingers crossed and praying that French St. Martin could cause an upset and hold Antigua & Barbuda to a draw, or even defeat the host in the final game on Sunday night, and if by chance Anguilla were to lose, they would hold Antigua & Barbuda to a small margin, thus allowing the Sugar Boys to advance to the next zone in Trinidad & Tobago, with a greater goal difference.
