BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DANCERS, potential dancers and enthusiasts of this age-old art form in St. Kitts and Nevis will soon have an opportunity to enhance their techniques and learn new styles when the 2010 Summer Dance Workshop begins in mid-August.
This workshop, which is scheduled to commence on Monday, August 16 and ends three weeks later, will be held at the Youth and Community Center on Victoria Road, Basseterre.
The workshop will be facilitated by Stacey Greene, who informed SKNVibes that its primary focus is to improve on physical fitness, coordination, strength, endurance, stamina, grace, poise, posture and balance while teaching the basic concepts of Ballet, Jazz, Modern Jazz and Funk, as well as Gymnastics.
Greene stated explained that in the first two weeks, classes would be held for Beginners from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. while the Intermediate to Pre-Advance levels would be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
“Week one will focus on Ballet and in week two Modern-Jazz, Jazz-Funk and Aerobics Training will take the spotlight. The third and final week, starting Monday, August 30, will be an open Cheerleading and Basic Gymnastics Training session from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily,” she indicated.
Artistic Director of the Vivace Dance Company and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender Affairs, Sharon Rattan, said she is excited about the workshop and noted that “Stacey is a shining example of commitment and discipline to excel. Dance requires discipline and without this one cannot expect to reach far in this art form”.
Director of the Fire Flies Dance School and Senior Children’s Dance Theater tutor, Heidi Slack, said participants should not wait to register for this workshop and was high in praise of Greene and her ability as a dancer.
“I've worked with Stacey and I can guarantee you that this workshop will be very beneficial to you. Stacey is very enthusiastic and professional. You are sure to learn a lot! Register now!”
