BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE reigning National Carnival Queen of St. Kitts and Nevis, Sudeakka Francis, will have the opportunity of becoming a Caribbean Regional Ambassador if crowned the 2010 Miss Jaycees Caribbean.

According to a press release, the Jaycees Committee is looking at fostering stronger ties within the Caribbean region and the 2010 winner would be tasked with promoting the mission and vision of Junior Chamber International (JCI) and also advocating for greater levels of inter-regional travel among the Caribbean islands.

Throughout her 2010-2011 reign, Miss Jacees Caribbean’s task will be to sensitise citizens of the region and its governments on the devastating effects of Climate Change on the region and how Caribbean people can combat, cope and negate the effects.

The Miss Jaycees is said to be not just a pageant but a fundraiser project of the local JCI Antigua chapter to support community development projects of the organisation.

The pageant will be executed for 2010 under the theme ‘Integrating the Caribbean through Pageantry – Embracing the Effects of Climate Change’, along with a stage décor theme of: ‘A Tropical Fantasy’.

The pageant, which is in its 49th year, will see contestants from Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Anguilla, Guyana, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Croix, Montserrat, Barbados, Dominica and St. Kitts and Nevis vying for the title.

The contestants will be competing in five segments - Costume, Interview, Swimwear, Talent and Evening Wear.

In a message posted on the pageant’s official website, Francis said that preparing for a pageant is no easy task as she struggles to balance work and preparations for the event.

“Nevertheless, every second of my preparation is worth it, especially if I am to do my best. My family, friends and team always encourage me to stay focus and be determined. Their words of encouragement give me that extra push and boost my confidence. I am very thrilled about meeting the other contestants and being a part of ‘A Tropical Fantasy!’

“It is indeed an honour and privilege to represent my Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis at the 49th Annual Miss Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show,” she stated.

The pageant will be held tomorrow (Jul. 30) at the Antigua Recreation Grounds.

The release also states that it is anticipated that with much support towards and funds gained from the pageant, the Queen would have sufficient fiscal support to implement her efforts in not only advocating Climate Change Awareness across the region but also executing related projects in the Caribbean islands.
