CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, July 29, 2010 (HOPE Press Release) - Nevis Inc. joins with the rest of the Nevisian community in extending heartiest congratulations to Elquemedo Willet for the national recognition that he has received in having Grove Park renamed in his honour.
His ascension to the West Indies Cricket team and indeed, the representation that he afforded, brought great pride to Nevisians everywhere and even to aspiring cricketers throughout the Leeward Islands. The way in which he weaved his web of spin, not only captured the wicket of great batsmen but also won the hearts of many.
His discipline and devotion to the sport, when combined with his love for country, enabled him to stand out as the embodiment of Nevisian excellence. Above all else, Elquemedo Willet demonstrated that great things are the result, not of population or geographic size but of national character and commitment and that ‘small island’ people could also aspire and achieve great things.
It is for these reasons, why we tip our hats and raise our bats to this veritable Nevisian Icon who through his magnificent contributions, both on and off the field, emboldened the pride of a nation and provided great hope for our people!
