BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS revellers gear up for what is expected to be a spectacular Culturama weekend, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force are imploring them to do their part in keeping the festivities incident-free.
The celebrations officially kicked off on July 22 with the Grand Opening and Junior Kaiso Contest. Culturama supporters have since then been exposed to the Senior Kaiso Semi-Finals, the Miss Culture Swimwear Contest and the Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant.
The agenda for the weekend is packed and includes a Culturama Drag Racing event, the Emancipation J’Ouvert Jump Up, Culturama Horse Races and the Cultural Street Parade and Last Lap.
In an exclusive interview with SKNVibes, Acting Commissioner of Police Stafford Liburd noted that in order to maintain a sense of peace during the festivities, members of the Federation’s security forces who are stationed in St. Kitts will lend their support to those of the Nevis Division, especially as it relates to major events.
He explained that special attention would be paid to travel on the ferries which service St. Kitts and Nevis.
“The security forces [Police and Defence Forces] will lend support to the Nevis Division during some of the major activities. Another area in which we aim to pay attention is the movement of ferries and boats that travel between St. Kitts and Nevis during the festival period. As for motorists, whether driving in Nevis or, in particular, the Peninsular in St. Kitts, to or from the Sea Bridge, we are asking you to exercise as much patience and caution as possible.”
COP (Ag) Liburd said it is his hope that the Culturama festivities would be “peaceful and incident-free”.
