LOS ANGELOS, US – DMX, an American known for his famous dog barks, was earlier this week sentenced to serve 90 days in jail for an incident that took place in 2002 when he was arrested for reckless driving.

According to the Jamaica Observer, the 39-year-old rapper turned himself in at a downtown courthouse, where a judge ruled that he could not be freed on electronic monitoring, work release or home detention.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was originally charged with drunken driving but it was later dismissed and he was placed on probation. He however violated his probation by failing a drug test in January 2010.

The rapper was supposed to surrender himself to police in March but did not do so, which caused a judge to revoked his US$100 000 bail.

DMX had performed in St. Kitts at one of the island’s annual Music Festival and was arrested immediately after his performance for using obscene language while on stage.

Although it has been quite sometime since the rapper released his last record, he is known for many hits during the peak of his career. Such hits include ‘Party Up’, ‘We In Here’, ‘Where The Hood At’ and ‘Who We Be’.

He has also played leading roles in a number of movies including ‘Belly’, ‘Cradle to the Grave’ and ‘Exit Wounds’.
