Woman shot in back on Nevis

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – A young woman is currently undergoing surgery in the Alexandra Hospital after she was shot by an unknown assailant in Government Road, Nevis.

     

    According to reports, Moya Duporte of St. Kitts was shot in the back shortly after 8:00 tonight (Aug. 3) while she was sitting with her boyfriend at his Government Road residence.

     

    Reports further indicate that she and her boyfriend were sitting on the fence having a drink when they heard the sound of a broken twig in the direction of the rear of the house. Suddenly, an unidentified individual appeared out of the darkness and fired a shot at the couple.

     

    The boyfriend reacted by throwing the bottle from which he was drinking at the individual and the two of them started running. However, more shots were fired out and Duporte was hit in the back.

     

    Duporte was taken to the hospital, where she is currently undergoing surgery.

     

    SKNVibes learned that the assailant was not caught by the police officers who responded immediately after receiving report of the incident; however, investigations are ongoing.

     

    This media house was informed that Duporte had recently left St. Kitts to live with her boyfriend in Nevis.

     

    This is the second shooting incident to have occurred in the Federation within 24-hour. Last night, at about 8:30, Alonzo ‘Capone’ Herbert of Bay Road, Irish Town was shot in the leg and back in the vicinity of Thibou Avenue and Fort Thomas Road in McKnight.

     

    He was rushed to the JNF Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after 12:00 this morning.

     

    Herbert’s death has taken the number of homicides committed in St. Kitts and Nevis for 2010 to 18. Investigations into this incident are also ongoing.
