Green House’s ‘Culture Love’ best local album to date

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONLY two years into their musical career and members of the Green House Band are making waves in the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

It is amazing to note that the band’s debut album, ‘Culture Love’, is already a hit.

The album reflects the amazing talent of the band’s members and many music lovers have commended them, noting while it had taken either the third or fourth album of some artistes to produce quality music and be recognised, it was not so for the Green House Band. “They did it on release of their first album.”

The band was formed by one of the Federation’s top musician and producer, Jazzique Chiverton, who declared that he ensured he got the most talented individuals together to make the band one of, if not the best in the Federation.

The band is made up of brothers Todd and Mel Pemberton, who play the drums and bass respectively, while Duane ‘Thompson’ Morton, the man with the golden voice, is the lead vocalist.

This combination gives the band that official international sound.

The album is not like the regular Kittitian-produced albums. In fact, when this reporter first listened to the music, after a few minutes into the first track my love for it grew stronger.

So alluring was the music that it created some doubt in my mind about its producer. I therefore immediately picked up the case that houses the CD to ascertain the music was produced by a local band and not a foreign one, especially from the US.

The first track is that good.

Members of the Green House Band have put great thought and work into the album. They claimed that it is not about having an album released in their name, but about putting out great music and showing other homegrown artistes and bands who aim for that international appeal that this is the way to do it.

The album is predominantly love songs with a touch of Caribbean culture. It features 12 tracks – ‘My Love gets stronger’, ‘Love is free’, ‘American Woman’, ‘Song of my life’, ‘Every time it rains’, ‘Super power’, ‘Born for the music’, ‘Everything, everything’, ‘Heart shaking lover’, ‘Prayer for the ghetto youth’, ‘Better man’ and ‘My first Lover’.

One glance at the titles and one gets the feeling of love. Listening to the music and melody, one can also feel the love, and listening to the lyrics one can hear the love in it. The album is all about love, and what a beautiful thing that is especially when it is known that modern music is often branded as negative. There are still some persons who are serious about producing great music, and that is Green House’s quest.

It’s hard to choose a favorite from the album; all of the featured songs are superb with a mixture of Reggae, Pop, Neo-soul and Rhythm and Blues.

The album also features a strong message in ‘Prayer for the ghetto youth’ that features Mr. Mention of the Nu Vybes Band.

The chorus says, “This is a prayer of the ghetto youth, help us Father need to see the truth, this is a prayer for the ghetto youth, help us make it through today…”

This album is suitable for every man, woman and child and can be purchased at Island Hopper in St. Kitts and Chapter One Bookstore in Nevis.
