BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ALTHOUGH being incarcerated in the US over the past eight months, Buju Banton continues to contribute to the entertainment industry.
SKNVibes learned that Banton’s Gargamel record label will be releasing the singer’s ninth studio album next month, titled ‘Before The Dawn’.
According to his official website, the album would feature 10 powerful tracks which comprise this very special project and are some of the more prophetic songs written by Banton since his extraordinary entry into the music business over 20 years ago.
His last album ‘Rasta Got Soul’ was released in April 2009 and received rave reviews from an array of international media outlets including Billboard, Exclaim!, Hip-Hop Weekly and All Music Guide, which called the album an instant classic.
The album also received a Grammy nomination in the Best Reggae Album category.
In December 2009, while trying to promote his ‘Rasta Got Soul’ album, Banton was arrested and charged with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine and possession of a firearm. It was alleged that he and some of his companions were trying to buy cocaine from an undercover cop.
He has been in prison ever since and has had his cased pushed back several times. Banton is scheduled to appear in court again on September 28, 2010, the very day his album would hit the streets of North America.
Some of his hits to date include ‘Willy Don’t Be Silly’, ‘Mr. Nine’, ‘Paid Not Played’, ‘Murderer’, ‘Driver’ and ‘Magic City’.
