By: Curtis Morton

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, August 16, 2010 (Press Release) - The Highlights Int female Cricket team is the undisputed champion of female crciket on Nevis for 2010. This feat was accomplished on the evening of Saturday 14th August at the Elquemedo Willet Park, when they won over a determined Empire team for the second time in a row, to bring an end to the best of three finals.

Highlights captain Ruby Chapman won the toss and immediately decided to take first knock. A lackluster looking Empire team soon found some rhythm when Ruby Chapman and Latoya Bussue went cheaply. However, Curleanne Parris led the way in rallying the Highlights’ cause,  ably assisted by supportive knocks from Hanley, Berkley and Matthew.  Hanley fell to a stunning, diving catch at short midwicket by a tumbling Catherine Joseph. They got to a competitive total of 93 for 6 from their 12 overs.

Empire was off to a rapid start in response, when Diana Browne ferociously heaved a Latoya Bussue delivery, majestically towards Swannie’s for a huge six. She was then magnificently caught in a good running effort by Esther Matthew as she attempted to repeat the shot.

Charmaine Walters hit a few lusty blows towards the end of the game aided by Catherine Joseph who played a few good shots as well, but in the end they fell a tantalizing 12 runs short of a possible victory.

Summarized scores:  Highlights Int 92 for 6 from 12 overs: Curleanne Parris 29 not out; K. Hanley 11; Lesley Berkley 11 and Esther Matthew 8. There were 25 extras. For Empire-Browne, Powell, Walters and Liburd all got 1 wicket each.

Empire: 81 for 3 from 12 overs: Charmaine Walters 23 not out and Catherine Joseph 19 not out. There were 18 extras. For Highlights –Berkley, Pemberton and Bussue all got 1 wicket each.
