CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, August 16, 2010 (Press Release) - Don Dyer and Dillon Thompson, two of Nevis’ brightest young football prospects may both be out of the next round of matches as the St. Kitts-Nevis Under-17 Football team seeks to qualify for the Under-17 World Cup.
Thompson who got injured in the early exchanges is looking forward to a return to the team and Dyer who got injured in the more recent round of matches in Antigua indicated that his Doctor had advised that he would be ready at this time but was still feeling some pain up to last week.
Dyer was particularly pleased with his team’s performance during the Antigua leg of the qualifiers even though he felt that he missed out on scoring a few goals. Thompson was quick to interject that he (Dyer) was nervous.
Dyer explained that his team was faced with mounumental task when they came up against Antigua and Barbuda as they had to beat the host team on goal average in order to progress. St.Kitts-Nevis had beaten Anguilla by a margin of 7 goals to 1 but Antigua defeated the same team 10 goals to 1. It meant therefore that Antigua and Barbuda had a lead of three goals as the two teams squared off. St. Kitts–Nevis went on to whip the home team by the grand margin of 12 goals to 1.
The St. Kitts–Nevis team will now move on shortly to Trinidad where they will engage Trinidad and Tobago in a ‘must win’ encounter in order to progress. Thompson will not be fit to qualify for the team but Dyer is hoping that he gets the green light from his doctor in order to make the trip.
Meanwhile both youngsters are doing light training at the Elquemedo Willet Park under the watchful eyes of their School’s Coach, Leroy ‘Jun-Jun’ Sweeney.
Both young men are confident that the CSS team will be the team to watch when the local football tournament starts. "We are going to step it up", Dillon declared ominously and Don nodded in agreement.
