Grand Masters, Small Axe for New York Labor Day weekend

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TWO of St. Kitts’ popular bands will be taking their music to higher heights as they travel to New York City (NYC) for the US Labour Day weekend that will be celebrated from September 3 to 5.

Small Axe Band, referred to as the ‘Sweetest Band in De Land’, along with Road March winners Grand Masters Band will be the main headliners of two events.

St. Kitts lone female DJ Sweet Sister Sensia will also get a taste of the events. The events will be held on two separate nights. Friday, September 3, dubbed ‘Bust You Bubble’, will see Grand Masters Band as the main act and the night will also feature the Triple S DJ and the Small Axe Band at Best Party Place in the Bronx.

On the following day, the St. Kitts’ contingent will be entertaining patrons at the Star 590 Bar, which is also located in the Bronx, and the event will be dubbed ‘Yo Melinda’. The night will feature Small-Axe Band and Rot Hot Burning Flames as the main act alongside Triple S, Grand Masters Band, Asid Sound, Mobetta, Concord Sound and Executioner Sound with Tommy, who is originally from St. Kitts but resides in the US.

The events are being organised by Clayton Thomas, popularly known as Massive of Jadon’s Entertainment and Higher Level Promotions. He also is a national of St. Kitts residing in New York.

According to Thomas, this would be the first in a long time that the Small-Axe and Grand Masters Bands would be performing at the same event in NYC.

“This is something St. Kitts people in New York haven’t seen in years for Labour Day. It has also been one band at one event and the next band at another,” Thomas said.

Thomas explained that he decided to promote the events because on checking around he found that there was no event for the St. Kitts community in New York or for those nationals of the twin-island Federation who would be visiting for the Labour Day weekend.

“So I decided to do something to bring St. Kitts people together, where they would perhaps even meet family and old friends,” he said.

Thomas also told this media house of the possibility of having Infamus making a special appearance at the events. He however declared that the events coordinator is still trying to reach out to the artiste and tie up some loose ends in making it possible
