Portmore Empire artiste in trouble with Bahamas authorities

    NASSAU, Bahamas - ONE of the artistes from the famous Portmore Empire Camp, led by the popular Vybz Kartel, has gotten himself in trouble with the law in The Bahamas and will appear in court today (Aug. 18).     

     

    According to a popular Jamaican website, Popcaan and two members of his entourage were involved in a fight with a Bahamian national who works for Spirit Airlines. The incident, which resulted in the trio being arrested, took place at the Lynden Pindling International Airport in The Bahamas on Monday, August 16.

     

    The singer and the two men were charged with assault, wounding and destruction of personal property, as a laptop was destroyed in the process.  

     

    Popcaan, whose real name is Andre Sutherland, was discovered by Vybz Kartel. His career took off sometime last year with hits like ‘No Ordinary Girl’, ‘Fake Friends’ and ‘Up Inna De Club’.

     

    He was also arrested and charged in May this year for possession of cannabis sativa.

     

    Popcaan is referred to as one of the top talents in the Portmore Camp and is known for his famous line “Weh you get da new Clarks deh, Dawdie”, which was taken from the ‘Clarks’ single done as a collaboration among he, Vybz Kartel and Gaza Slim. It is now a major hit on the regional and international scene.

     

    He recently released two new singles titled ‘Gangsta City’ and ‘Dream’, which so far has been receiving good reviews. A video is soon to be release for ‘Dream’. 

     

    Popcaan celebrated his 19th birthday last month.
