CONAREE, St. Kitts, August 20, 2010 (Press Release) - Delroy Cornelius was especially punishing and dominant in a superlative knock at the Conaree grounds in St. Kitts yesterday.
This when the Nevis U-13 team engaged their Kittitian counterparts in a practice game prior to the commencement of the annual regional St. Kitts-Nevis cricket tournament which will commence today with an opening ceremony.
Cornelius strode purposefully to the crease after the earlier batsmen had set a reasonable foundation and immediately commenced stroking the ball around the grounds.
A lofted six over long on was reminiscent of the straight hit at the Elquemedo Willet Park several weeks ago when he smashed the glass of a vehicle. Add to that three consecutive fours from one over and a handsome straight hit smack into the side screen, for good measure. He held out in the final over, understandably attempting another biggie.
Quite apart from Cornelius, Saeed Williams, Ross Powell who was unusually aggressive, Kezron Archibald, Philo Wallace and Shelton Forbes all showed glimpses of the powerful Nevisian batting line up. Nevis chalked up a superb 182 for 6 in just 20 overs.
St. Kitts on the other hand could only muster 81 for 6 from their 20 overs with Saeed
Williams’ wrist spinners proving to be a major hurdle.
Summarized scores: Nevis 182 for 6 - Delroy Cornelius 50, Kezron Archibald 36, Ross Powell 27, Philo Wallace 21, Saeed Williams 13 and Shelton Forbes 13.
St. Kitts 81 for 6 — Saeed Williams 3 wickets for 6 runs from 3 overs, Hakeem Harvey 1 for 5 from 3 overs and Ravi Sewdat 1 for 8.
The opening ceremony for the prestigious U-13 tournament will be held at the Basseterre High School grounds starting at 10.00 a.m. today.
