~~Adz:Right~~Basseterre, St. Kitts, June 07, 2006: The Ministry of Health continues the empowerment of its health professionals with diabetes educator training for Community Health Nurses.
The weekly sessions commenced with training for Senior Community Health Nurses which ran from May 24 to 26. This session was facilitated by Ms. Eulynis Browne and took place at the National Emergency Management Agency Building.
Since then weekly one-day sessions designed for Community Health Nurses have taken place each Wednesday at the Newtown Community Centre. These sessions are facilitated by Health Educator Petronella Edwards.
Topics covered include: Epidemiology and the Burden of Diabetes and Teaching Principles for the prevention of diabetes as well as for those patients who already have the chronic illness. Other topics covered include: The Role of the Dietician as well as the Role of Medication and Possible Complications.
The training provided will be to the benefit of the residents of St. Kitts and Nevis.
