CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, August 25, 2010 (Press Release) - The Nevis 13 and Under cricket team continued their winning ways at the Elquemedo Willet Park yesterday when they dished out a comprehensive defeat to their Bermudan counterparts.
Nevis has now played 4 matches and won all 4 quite convincingly and their match up versus Barbados who have also won all of their matches is expected to be the highlight of the tournament, come Saturday 28th August.
Nevis batted first as has been the case in all of their previous matches and seemed to struggle in the middle overs as the Bermuda captain Rawlins wrung the changes in his bowling and field placings and applied some degree of pressure on the natural free scoring tendencies of the home team. However, Saeed Williams batted solidly to chalk up his second half ton for the tournament. Ross Powell and Captain Clydre Smithen were the only two other batsmen to get into double figures. Nevis eventually getting to 155 for 6 from their allotted 25 overs.
When the Bermuda team responded, aggressive seamer Ravi Sewdat was smashed through extra cover for four—definitely one of the shots of the match. The Bermuda Captain Rawlins was heard to shout from the pavilion: “Welcome to the party, boy!” They however flattered to deceive as sustained pace from both ends from Captain Clydre Smithen and Ravi Sewdat, proved their undoing.
As the innings progressed, hat trick taker of the previous day, Hakeem ‘Rample’ Harvey wasted little time in bringing the game to an early end. Bermuda bowled out for a mere 40 runs.
