CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, August 25, 2010 (Press Release) - The Nevis under 23 Netball squad will commence intense training sessions on Tuesday 7th September at the Grell Hull-Stevens Netball Complex. Word of this comes from Mr. Allister Thompson who is the Treasurer of the local Netball Association on Nevis.
Thompson indicated that the under 23 Netball tournament will be held in St.Kitts next year in the month of June but that over the years, the team has suffered from a lack of adequate preparation. The Association is therefore making a concerted effort to ensure that for the upcoming tournament, the young ladies will be properly fine tuned and fully prepared to give a good account of themselves.
A squad of 19 young ladies has been selected and they will be practising in the initial stage on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He was also very careful to indicate that these practice sessions will not be conducted in an adhoc manner as has been the case in the past when they would commence sessions at 7 and 8pm. Practice sessions will commence at 6pm sharp and the girls have already been asked to make the necessary sacrifices in order to excel.
He further explained that the under 23 tournament is normally one of the major cause of expenditure for his Association on an annual basis and they will definitely be expecting ‘value for money’ next year.
A business league is being planned for October and the under 23 squad will be entered in the tournament. They will be closely monitored during the league and immediately after that, the current squad of 19 will be reduced to 14.
The 19 member squad reads: Andrea Erskien, Kimberly Maynard, Chalesia Browne, Randicia Chapman, Tamarel Browne, Curlesia Parry, Kel Williams, Trica Powell, Leosha Wyatt, Keona Daniel, Derika Parry, Calinda Nisbett, Leon Browne, Eunoka Flemming, Kishonda Williams, Sasha Liburd, Damali Lawrence, Verna Grant and Naika Martin.
