National Bank, Sandy Point Branch robbed!

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE are investigating a daring robbery that took place this morning (Aug. 26) at the Sandy Point Branch of the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank.

Initial reports reaching SKNVibes indicated that the institution was robbed but no details were forthcoming. However, investigations made by this media house revealed that at about 11:00 a.m., an armed, masked individual entered the building, hopped over the counter that separates customers from the employees, approached the cash register and made off with an undisclosed sum of money.

This was later confirmed in a press release by the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Zenhastel Hector.

“On Thursday 26th August 2010 at about 11:00 a.m. Police responded to a report of armed robbery at the St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank LTD, Sandy Point Branch. It was reported that a masked person armed with a gun entered the bank, jumped over the counter and took a sum of money from the cash registers,” the release read.

Thankfully, the release further informed, the onslaught resulted in no injuries.

This media house conducted further investigations in which an eye-witness said two individuals dressed in black were seen exiting the premises.

“Two men ran out from the bank, in all black; black masks, black pants and black shirts. One of the men had a black bag over his shoulder. Both of them were tall.” The eyewitness further explained that both men ran through the lane next to the bank “pushing down the guard” in the process.

The police have indicated that they are making investigations into the incident and have asked for the assistance of the public in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“The investigation is in progress. The Police are appealing to persons with information on this crime to call the Sandy Point Police Station at 465-6261.”

This incident marks the second bank robbery to have taken place within the space of two months. In early July, the Royal Bank of Canada, Wellington Road Branch, was robbed by a group of armed, masked individuals. That event left a number of workers of the financial institution traumatised and in need of medical care.

According to Hector, no one has been held accountable for that robbery and it is still being investigated.
