Female Cricket Prize Giving Ceremony held

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, August 27, 2010 (Press Release) - Last evening at the Elquemedo Willet Park, the prize giving ceremony for the 2010 female cricket league was held. The event which was scheduled for 6: 00 p.m. actually started at about 6:30 p.m. and caught some people totally off guard as they were anticipating a 7:00 p.m. start, or later.

     

    Vice President Cartwright Farrell deputized in the absence of President Ronald Powell, who is off island and thanked the ladies for a competitive and exciting tournament. 

     

    He used the opportunity to remind them of the fact that the Leeward Islands board has indicated that they will be looking forward to selecting a 25 member squad for next year’s WICB female cricket competition, with players chosen from throughout the Leewards and asked those interested to indicate quickly so that they can be placed into specialized training with the intention of getting several selectees from Nevis.

     

    He also noted that a 14 member Nevis squad will be shortly selected to tour St.Maarten a little later this year.

     

    Apology was made on behalf of the representatives from the Ministry of Sports, who were all elsewhere engaged as the official renaming ceremony of the Gingerland Road in honour of Mr. Uhral Swanston was not yet concluded.

     

    Mr. Stascius Wallace of the Nevis Cricket Association then assisted in making the following presentations:

     

    Best fielder - Angel Leader (St.James’)
    Best All rounder - Judy Morton (St.James’)
    Best Bowler - Les Berkley (Highlights Int)
    Best Batter - Ruby Chapman (Highlights Int)
    Best Wicketkeeper - Idella Pemberton (Highlights Int)
    MVP of the tournament - Ruby Chapman (Highlights Int)
    Bowler with the Most Wickets - Chaliese Browne (Super Rockers)
    Bottom four champions - St.James’
    Six a side champions - St.James’
    Third place overall - St.Thomas’
    2nd Place overall - Empire
    Champion team - Highlights Int

     

    The winners received trophies, medals and monetary prizes. Awards were collected by team members for those individuals who were absent. The umpires who officiated during the league also received medals.
