BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A dead body which was found in the area of Stapleton Estate has been identified as that of Raymond ‘Chico’ Edwards.
Earlier this morning, members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) were summoned to the area (located below the Stapleton basketball court in St. Peters) and when they arrived, they met the body of aged man lying among bushes.
When SKNVibes arrived on scene and made enquiries, it was revealed that the deceased man was a resident of Stapleton Village and his home was located several meters from the area where he was found.
A relative of the deceased informed this media house that the 70-year-old man was last seen at about 8:00 yesterday morning (Aug 31) when he ate breakfast and left the family yard. She said it is customary for Edwards, also known as ‘Pass a Punch’, to leave his place of dwelling and wander, but abnormal for him to not return.
“He is accustomed to walk away but this is the first time that he has not come back. A fellow by the name of ‘Buckles’ who lives down here, found him this morning and he called the relatives to tell us what he had found.”
Senior officer on scene, Sergeant Edward Drew, indicated that investigations into the occurrence are being made but declined to comment on whether or not foul play is suspected in Edward’s death.
Edwards’ relative and caretaker, Shirley Walters, told SKNVibes she remembers and will remember him as “a quiet and friendly person”.
SKNVibes understands that Edwards was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner subsequent to which, his body was removed from the area.
