Constable Abbott charged again, on bail

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Weeks after he was criminally charged and released on bail, Police Constable Timothy Abbott has been slapped with another criminal charge and bailed, following three days on remand.

Information reaching SKNVibes suggests that late last week (Friday), Abbott was charged with “fraudulent conversion” and after being taken before the Magistrate Court, was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Confirmation of this was given by Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime (ACP Crime), Joseph Liburd, who indicated that Abbott, a member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, is also on suspension.

Approximately three weeks ago (Aug. 10), Abbott was similarly charged and was granted bail having appeared before the same court.

Sometime prior, however, rumours began circulating which suggested that Abbott swindled persons out of their money by promising that he would legally acquire firearms for them from the United States of America and other countries. Other rumours suggest that Abbott allegedly took money from persons who made application to the Police Force to acquire a licenced firearm(s).

When asked if the current charge for which he was remanded is in anyway related to the accusations and rumours, Liburd said he is not aware and advised that the Commissioner of Police (Ag) Stafford Liburd be contacted on the matter.

However, attempts to contact COP (Ag) Liburd, both on cellular and landline, were unsuccessful.

SKNVibes understands that Abbott, who was yesterday (Aug. 31) taken before the Basseterre High Court of Justice, was granted bail in amount of $100,000 with two sureties.

    Investigations into the matters continue.
