Man electrocuted trying to restore power

    ST. JOHNS, Antigua – A 34-year-old man, former employee  of  Antigua’s Public Utilities Authority (APUA) is dead after being electrocuted yesterday (August 31) while trying to restore electricity to an area in Antigua, which was affected by the passing of hurricane Earl. 

     

    Collin Warner who was also known as ‘Relic’ according to Caribbean360 was among four other employees when his death occurred in the English Harbor area around 5:30p.m.

     

    Many persons throughout the island who had called APUA to register displeasure of not having electricity restored more speedily expressed how saddened they were over Warner’s death. 

     

    Warner who was employed with at the Maintenance Department of APUA’s Electricity Division, was described as a good employee who displayed great aptitude for the job.

     

    An investigation into the matter is being carried out
     
    SKNVibes contacted the manager of the St. Kitts Electricity Department Bertil Brown who said he was unaware of the incident which occurred in Antigua and that it is an unfortunate one. 

     

    However, Brown is appealing to the generally public to have patience with his department which is working diligently to have power restored on the entire island.

     

    He said that the largest area without electricity presently  is that stretching from the St. Pauls to Newton Ground  and that the service should be restored later today as long as the weather permits the staff to carry out their to completion. 

     

    He added that a number of individuals may still be without electricity due to a problem with the individual lines to their homes and that any person experiencing this problem should alert the department. Brown said as far as he is aware  electricity has already been restored to all other areas of the island.

    “We worked until midnight last night and will do so tonight if we have too” Brown stated.
