Youth Rule at Green Valley League Opening

    Basseterre, St. Kitts - The Green Valley League started on Sunday September 5th with a huge upset when the Cayon Football Academy came from behind to defeat Little Loxs of Lower Cayon 2-1.

     

    The match was the opening encounter in a league organized by the Cayon Football club as one of the several efforts aimed at rebuilding the club into championship material.

     

    The Cayon Football Academy comprised mainly of youth at the U 17 and U 15 levels and the preview had the experienced league contenders little  Loxs  and winning easily and handsomely. Things seemed to be going the way of the predictions as Little Loxs turned on the early pressure and opened the scoring midway through the second half. However the tables turned when Vince Henry broke free on the left side and equalized and then 7 minutes from the end Henry  netted the winner despite cries of offside on an non interfering player.

     

    In the marquee match Spooners were made to work hard for their 5-2 victory over Molineux. Spooners was gifted an own goal to open the scoring but Molineux had two quick strikes to lead 2-1 at he half. Spooners introduced Errol Olouglin who literally took over the game and set up three of the four goals that were scored before the end. Kurt Morton grabbed a hat trick and crowd favourite Omali Deshawn “Struggle O’loughlin scored a superb half volley to send the crowd into a frenzy.

     

    Both games were played for 70 minutes and the St. Mary Park did not receive the lights that they were promised.

     

    Matches will continue on weekend with double header on both days. The anticipated highlight of the upcoming weekend is the Green Valley Pub team coming up against a team called Sunday Morning Blues.

    About the League
    The Green Valley League is being hosted by  the  Cayon football Club as one of its activities aimed at bring back glory days of football for the Club.

     

    Eight teams so far have confirmed participation Cayon Football Academy, Spooners, Little Loxs, Water Works, Green Valley Pub, Sunday Morning Blues,  Mantab and Molinuex. Two others in bulldogs and Radicals are trying to beat the late registration deadline.

     

    There has been no major sponsor to date although Green Valley Pub and Strictlysportsinc.com have committed some funds.

     

    The next two upcoming games on Saturday 11 are as follows Water Works versus  Mantab and Sunday Morning Blues versus the boys from the Green Valley Pub.
