NAGICO Schedule to be finalized
Yesterday, President of the Leeward Islands Cricket Board Mr. Gregory Shillingford released the revised fixtures for the NAGICO one day series. However, Mr. Romel Hughes of the Anguilla Cricket board has sent a counter proposal to the LICA President for consideration. Nevis Cricket Chief Ronald Powell and his Deputy Cartwright Farrell have both indicated a preference for the schedule proposed by Hughes which in effect will allow all teams to play against each other in the preliminary rounds which is not the case in the first schedule and may even be lower on accommodation cost for the teams.
They have expressed some reservations though due to the possibility that some teams may be forced to play up to four consecutive days, dependent on how they progress in the tournament. They are proposing an adjustment in this regard. Here is the schedule from the LICA President and it is followed by the suggestion from Mr. Hughes:

Mr. Earl Smithen joins the ‘debate’
Well known Cricket Commentator in St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Earl Smithen has joined the list of individuals who have ventured to select an all time Nevis cricket X1. Smithen who has played cricket locally at the club level became interested after he saw the proposed team by fellow commentator Walter Morton. This is what he had to say:
“I am somewhat reluctantly drawn into the best Nevis All Time eleven debate re cricket but Walter Morton's selection evoked some interest. Whereas I find that it is a reasonable selection in most parts , I do have a difference of opinion in some areas.
I must say that I have been fortunate enough to see all of the players he mentioned (including those not selected) perform and I must add there were players from different eras. Standards and opportunities would have differed too, thus making it very difficult to come up with a proper yardstick. I will therefore try to submit my humble opinion.
The captaincy beyond a shadow of a doubt for me will go to Stuart Williams. I prefer a captain who is proactive as opposed to one who is reactive and defensive. He is an astute leader, very knowledgeable of the game plus he has proven himself to be one of the leading captains in regional cricket. His performance with the bat at first class level speaks for itself.
Runako Morton must be in my team. He has been one of the leading scorers in regional cricket averaging 40.49 in first class cricket with a high of 231 plus he has scored a one-day century against the world's top team, Australia.
This means of course I would have to exclude Sollo Howell or Livingstone Sargeant. That's very easy, Sargeant is in. His record at LI level speaks for itself. At one point he held the record for the highest score in an inning. Added to that he scored an exceptional 127 against the Glamorgan Touring team. His first class average of 29.60 certainly belied his immense talent as a batsman who put a great value on his wicket. Job location at that time and not being able to prepare properly for the regional fixtures impacted negatively on his performances.
Ray Phillip would be my keeper. He was the best and also a very capable batsman. A bowling attack of this nature would certainly need the best keeper plus the batting line-up was very strong. In fact all the players were capable batsmen.
My team therefore would be as follows :
1. Stuart Williams - Captain
2. Elquemedo Willet - Vice Captain
3. Deryck Parry
4. Runako Morton
5. Keith Arthurton
6. Carl Tuckett
7. Ray Phillip
8. Livingstone Sargeant
9. Lipton Griffin
10.John Maynard
11.Livingstone Lawrence
It was not an easy team to select. Some outstanding players were left out. Sollo Howell who was a classy right-handed batsman, Vance Amory the aggressive and free-scoring batsman, Eversley "Chet" Barrett the pugnacious lefthander, Lewis Newton the solid reliable middle order batsman, Al Liburd the very dependable allrounder and Ed "The Gooner" Arthurton a fine allrounder and one of the finest exponents of swing bowling to grace these parts. The list certainly does not end here.
I hasten to add that this line-up will easily beat the current West Indies team.
Sagicor HPC start with victory over Bermuda by 18 runs
Windiescricket.com
Ontario, Canada: Sagicor West Indies HPC beat Bermuda by 18 runs in the opening one-day match of the Cricket Canada Summer Festival at Malton Cricket Club on Wednesday. Bermuda was restricted to 153-7 off their 30 overs in the match reduced from 50 overs after heavy rain.
Fast bowler Brandon Bess was superb at the "death" and ended with 2-20 from his six overs to halt Bermuda's pursuit. Fellow pacer Shannon Gabriel bowled with good pace at the top of the innings and ended with 1-22 from six overs. There were also wickets for seamer Jason Holder and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul.
For Bermuda, skipper David Hemp, a veteran of over a decade in English County Cricket, top scored with a brilliant 78 off 62 balls, including three sixes in one over from leg-spinner Shamarh Brooks. The over cost 23 runs.
Earlier in the match, the Sagicor HPC batted first after winning the toss and made 171 all out off 29.4 overs with opener Kieran Powell making 46 in an opening stand of 79 with Rajendra Chandrika who got 32. Nkrumah Bonner and wicket-keeper Devon Smith both made 29, while experienced pacer Malachi Jones took four wickets for Bermuda.
The Sagicor HPC will have their second match against Canada on Thursday at 10 am.
Greenidge to work with Ramdin, Simmons

Denesh Ramdin the Trinidad and Tobago wicketkeeper who was cut from the West Indies contract list, will get a chance to work on his batting flaws under the supervision of former West Indies opening batsman Gordon Greenidge.
Ramdin lost his central contract following "less than favourable" performances over the past year, prompting the T&T board to arrange for him to work with Greenidge. Ramdin averaged 15.75 in Tests during 2010, over seven runs below his career average, and his performances weren't up to the mark in the shorter versions either.
T&T selector Rangy Nanan said Ramdin "needs some assistance at this point in time and they don't want to forsake him. He has talent but something is not going right with his batting and the board thinks that he can play much better than what we are seeing at present."
Lendl Simmons, the aggressive opener who has fallen out of favour with the selectors, will also train under Greenidge. Simmons was one of West Indies' most impressive performers in the 2009 World Twenty20, making 150 runs at 30.00 and taking six wickets. However, he was dumped for the 2010 edition, following the appointment of Ottis Gibson as coach, and has been overlooked for international duty and developmental A tours since then.
Caribbean T20 2011 to be played in January
Cricinfo staff
The second edition of the Caribbean T20 tournament will be played in January 2011, just over six months after this year's event. The tournament was advanced so that the West Indian representative for Champions League 2011 can be identified earlier.
Guyana won the inaugural Caribbean T20, beating Barbados in the final on July 31, and qualified for the 2010 Champions League that gets underway on September 10.
"We were informed by the officials of the Champions League that the regional tournament was played too late in the season," West Indies Cricket Board director Baldath Mahabir explained. "They needed to know who would represent the West Indies at the tournament earlier and this was the major reason in bringing the tournament forward to January, to give them proper notice of our representatives."
The 2010 tournament was marred by poor weather, with three washouts in 16 games, however Mahabir was confident of better conditions following the rescheduling. "Rain affected the tournament this year because we were playing at the tail-end of the cricket season in Trinidad. In January the weather is expected to be much better and this is another plus."
