Basseterre, St. Kitts - Sports Caster Curtis Morton is indicating that what started as friendly debate amongst friends at a local level, has now taken on international proportions.
Quite a lot of crciket fans from here on Nevis and overseas have been making contact and submitting their proposals for an all time Nevis cricket X1.
Mr. Clifford Powell has already indicated that he will be the first to donate towards a healthy $3,000.00 US purse for the overall winner.
Over the weekend, Morton was contacted by the popular newspaper ‘News link’ and they are also willing to donate $100.00 EC to the winner and two weeks edition of the News link free of cost.
Someone else even indicated that a purse of $3,000.00 is far too much for somebody to receive for just writing down some names. That person is suggesting that donations be made to an overall target of $3,000.00 but that the winner only receive half of the funds, with the other half going to the Nevis Cricket Association.
Morton is promising that a committee will be finalized this week and ground rules for the competition and deadlines will soon be publicized.
Two more teams were submitted over the weekend:
1. Clifford Powell’s team:
1) Stuart Williams(captain),(2) Keith Arthurton(vice captain),(3) Livingston Lawrence ,(4)Livingston Sargeant,(5) Alford Howell,(6)Carl Tuckett,(7) Mac.Clevan(Mac.) Parris (WK.Keeper batsman), (8) Derrick Parry,(9) Elquemedo Willet,(10)Edmond (Gooner) Arthurton,(11) Lipton(big bird) Griffin (12)Hon. Vance Amory, (13) Eversely Barret.
Team Manager (Hon. Walcott Parry Premier of Nevis), (Team Pro. Theodore Ted. Hobson Esq.). The team does not need a coach, because they were highly skilled professionals.
My team selection was based on my first hand experience of watching these players performing at local and Leewards levels. I also have tapes of some of their test performances. I would like this project to be fun, and that is the reason that I did not include statistics.
2. Aldreth ‘Jet’ Thompson-Stanley’s team:
(1) Stuart Williams (captain), (2)Livingstone Lawrence,(3) Livingstone Sargeant,(4) Runako Morton,(5)Keith Arthurton( Vice captain), (6) Mc. Parris ( Wk.Keeper), (7)Carl Tuckett,(8) Derrick Parry,(9) Elquemedo Willet ,(10)Edmond Arthurton, (11) Lipton Griffin---- (12) Alford Howell, (13) Vance Amory.
Honourable mention of:
(14) Eversely Barret, (15) Earl Rawlings, (16) Harold Walters.
Bangalore thump listless Guyana
CRICINFO
Royal Challengers Bangalore sauntered to victory against Guyana in the most one-sided game of the tournament so far. It was Guyana's first game on the big stage, and they looked way out of their depth, as the highly rated Bangalore sounded an early warning to the rest of the field.
On a track where 345 runs had been scored in the evening's earlier game, Guyana poked and prodded their way to 103, a total Bangalore overhauled with the small matter of 46 deliveries remaining, giving the net run-rate an early boost. No statistic highlighted Guyana's ineffectual batting as much as the solitary boundary in a ten-over spell after the Powerplays.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 106 for 1 (Kallis 43*) beat Guyana 103 (Kallis 3-16) by nine wickets
ZC sets sights on Lara

Legendary West Indian batsman Brian Lara could be Zimbabwe Cricket's next high-profile signing, according to reports in local newspaper the Zimbabwe Independent. Lara, who was guest of honour and keynote speaker at the recent ZC annual awards ceremony, could take up a player/coach role with one of Zimbabwe's domestic franchises.
"The season is long, discussions are taking place, let us wait and see. You might see me coming back here," Lara is quoted as saying. Ozias Bvute, ZC's managing director added: "We are talking but its early days to say whether he is coming back to play or coach here."
The report suggests that Lara could play in the domestic Twenty20 competition and may also be called upon to help coach the national side's batsmen and claims that a source close to ZC has revealed that an offer has already been made.
Former South Africa fast bowler Allan Donald and Australian Jason Gillespie have already taken up coaching contracts in Zimbabwe, while Sean Clingeleffer, Andrew Hall and a handful of English county players have also been linked to domestic franchises.
Strauss century overhauls Pakistan.
CRICINFO
This was the game the summer so desperately needed. A tight contest, in front of a full house, fought to the bitter end as England held their nerve, securing a four-wicket victory with three balls remaining to ensure Andrew Strauss's fantastic 126 didn't go to waste. For a while that looked a close-run thing as the middle order stuttered in the final 10 overs, but Michael Yardy and Tim Bresnan retained their composure to keep the home side's winning run going, and hoist them up to No. 2 in the World ODI rankings.
England 295 for 6 (Strauss 126, Trott 53) beat Pakistan 294 for 8 (Kamran 74, Broad 4-81) by four wickets

BBC SPORTS
Novak Djokovic saved two match points on his way to a stunning win over Roger Federer in the US Open semi-finals.
The Serbian, seeded third, won an extraordinary match 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5 to end Federer's run of six consecutive finals at Flushing Meadows.
Djokovic is through to his second New York final, and he will face world number one Rafael Nadal on Sunday.
The Spaniard beat Russia's Mikhail Youzhny 6-2 6-3 6-4 in the first semi-final on 'Super Saturday'.
Nadal is trying to become only the seventh man to complete the set of all four Grand Slam titles and had been widely expected to face five-time champion Federer in the final, but Djokovic had other ideas.
Despite having lost to the Swiss for the last three years running in New York, including in the 2007 final, the 23-year-old proved to have the stronger nerve in the closing stages on Saturday.
