BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS SKNVIbes PEP continues to present entertaining topics, the reading audience was invited to become involved by participating through the submission of topics which are likely to arouse public interest and provoke feedback.
IN response to the appeal, a young woman wrote “Please feature a section on why people getting in the habit of hanging out clothes in front of their houses. People just stop going to the back of their yards to hang out clothes now. To me is just making the areas look like ghettoes.”
SKNVibes PEP embarked on a mission to give effect to the request of the young lady and was successful in mobilizing public opinion as expressed below..
First to give her opinion was Chazett who said, “That is just ghetto, clothes should be hung in the back yard.”
Another young lady, Ronnet was of the view that, clothes should only be hung at the front of any home if it is absolutely necessary.
EK, a radio host said, “It really doesn’t bother me, front or back, I don’t be looking so I don’t care.”
“I hate to see clothes hang out on verandas to me it’s so tacky and makes the place look like Sanford & Son junk yard. People need to take pride in where they live and keep the surroundings looking beautiful” said Janelle who seemed very annoyed that persons were actually engaging in such a practice.
Lester said, although in agreement with those persons who characterizes the practice as one resembling ghetto, the washing is not included as part of his duties but the responsibility of his girlfriend. He was quick to add however that he dares not tell her where to hang the clothes, knowing that her response to him will be” wash them you self”.
A young man who wants only to be referred to as D said, “Personally it is not my thing and I don’t like to see it either but sometimes depending on the weather I guess some people have no other choice.”
“That is something our parents and grandparents did a long time ago we need to move away from those kinds of things in this day and age, times changing and we must change with it. Standards of living rise so there is no need to have the communities looking all ghetto because even ghetto people living better” said an older man name Brown.
