Basseterre, St. Kitts - Stormy conditions may have caused the previously planned mega event which would have seen regional participation, to be postponed but stormy conditions did not prevent an exciting Drag Racing Independence weekend on Nevis.
Fair sized crowds showed up on Saturday for the free close up look at the race cars as they went through their inspection and testing exercises.
There was also a fair sized gathering on Sunday 19th-Independence day for the actual races. On this day, Drag racers from St.Kitts and Nevis matched their skills and their engines, much to the approval of the spectators on hand. Due to inclement weather on Sunday afternoon however, some of the races were postponed to Monday 20th –fortunately a public holiday.
It ended with Clifford Parry of Nevis piloting the fastest car on show.
The final results saw:
13 seconds—Josef Markman of St.Kitts
12 seconds—Felix Smithen of Nevis
11 seconds—Ray Chiverton of Nevis
10 seconds and under—open class—Clifford Parry of Nevis
Bike—Gavin France of Nevis
The date of the prize giving and trophies distribution ceremony will be announced shortly.
