Press Release

St. George’s, Grenada, September 16th 2010: The NNP recognizes the government’s response to its request for public information regarding mosquitoes and the threat and mitigation of a dengue outbreak. However the actions taken by the ministry are woefully inadequate and what was a mosquito nuisance has now become a scourge of Dengue in our country.

The NNP believes that in light of the fears of the general public, the alleged three(3) deaths from dengue in the last few days, the information obtained from reliable sources that a number of persons were prescribed and treated with plasma to stop and prevent bleeding, the large number of persons who are exhibiting signs and symptoms but who have not sought definitive diagnosis, it is time for sustained action and continuous information, including up-to-date statistics from the Minister and the Chief Medical Officer.

Among the questions requiring urgent answers are the following----------
1--Is the situation being treated as the serious Public Health issue that it is ?

2--Is the Ministry seeking advice and working collaboratively with the Public Health Specialists at St.    George's University to deal with this major health hazzard ?

3-- Do the policy-makers and the advisors  have the skills and are they competent to deal with the situation?

Answers, Action and Information are needed NOW.
Serious consequences have resulted from the mismanagement of other major health issues such as CANCER, DIALYSIS -provision, end stage renal disease, medication -supplies, building of the medical facility in St. John's. We cannot afford to continue playing with the health and lives of our citizens offering them as sacrifices on the altar of politics.

The NNP calls on the HON. Ann Peters to provide the much-needed leadership or resign from her position. Action, Answers and Information are  needed now. Tomorrow may be too late.
