Charlestown, Nevis - Cricket chief on Nevis, Ronald Powell has challenged the Nevis senior cricket team to be history makers. This he said as he met with the players at the ET Willet Park yesterday, just prior to making the all important announcement of the squad that will represent Nevis in this year’s Nagico Leeward Islands one day series.
Powell told the cricketers that they have already won the 20/20 series and they must now look towards winning the Nagico series and then later the Leeward Islands three day series. If this is done he indicated, the team would have created history because no Nevis team up to this point has won three championships in the same year.
The President also congratulated the cricketers on their impressive display at the ceremonial parade on Monday September 20th and told them that he was really pleased with their show of patriotism. His remarks were received by loud applause from the cricketers themselves. He further challenged them to take the responsibility to see Nevis cricket develop, individually and as a collective unit and wished them every success in the upcoming one day series.
He then announced the squad as chosen by the selectors and ratified by the Nevis Cricket Association:
Tonito Willet capt; Kieran Powell; Javia Liburd; Dennison Browne; Carlon Smithen; Trevier Smithen; Akito Willet; Jason Campbell; Kejel Tyson; Jamoy Tyson; Ian Byron; Adelvin Phillip and Joseph Williams.
Nevis is set to play the first match of the tournament on Saturday 25th September versus St.Maarten in St.Maarten. The full itinerary reads:
