Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - Despite the verbal bravado of the Antiguan contingent at the recently held press conference to launch the Beaumont Park Independence Horse race meet, the St.Kitts horses and jockeys were the combined dominant force on the big day, when the races were held on Sunday September 19th –Independence Day.

At one point, heavy rains curtailed the activity but did not serve to dampen the spirits of the highly motivated huge gathering. They were not only entertained by some of the top musical geniuses in the region but were kept busy seeking to win the numerous prizes offered by main sponsor of the event, DIGICEL—the bigger, better network.  Many persons enjoyed Independence gifts in the form of top ups and mobile phones after successfully participating in an organized Treasure hunt.
The final race results were as follows:

Race one:   4 furlongs and with a purse of $6,000.00
1st Lady 3 of Antigua in 49 seconds
    2nd Ragtime of St.Kitts
    3rd Frontier Sky of St.Kitts
Race two: 4 furlongs and with a purse of $6,000.00

1st Nambo Beauty of St.Kitts in 47 and 3/5 seconds
    2nd Reina Mia of St.Kitts
    3rd Brilliant Bride of St.Kitts

Race three: 5 furlongs and with a purse of $6,000.00
1st Please the King of St.Kitts in 1 min and 2/5 secs
    2nd Norse Spirit of St.Kitts
    3rd Jumma Girl of Antigua

Race four: 5 furlongs with a purse of $20,000.00
    1st Anansi of St.Kitts in 58 and 3/5 seconds—a new track record
2nd Mr. Big Stuff of Antigua
    3rd Al Portador of St.Kitts
    4th Murray’s Mazal of St.Kitts

Race five: 6 and ½ furlongs with a purse of $20,000.00 (Due to the rain, this race saw a combination of horses scheduled to run in races five and six)
1st Bad Action of St.Kitts in 1 min 27 secs
    2nd Jack Idle of Antigua
    3rd Movado of Antigua

The crowd remained until late into the night to be further entertained by popular DJ-Ronnie Rascal, Claudette Peters, Tian Winter, Small Axe Band and Red Hot Flames. The Antiguan Artistes surprised the huge gathering by singing some of the songs from the local bands such as Ultra Sonics, Odyssey and Small Axe.
