BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young man who escaped police custody is currently at the Joseph N. France General Hospital nursing a wound he sustained while he was being recaptured.
Information disseminated by the police indicated that 25-year-old Jason Liddie was taken into police custody at the Old Road Police Station as he was believed to have committed an act of larceny from a dwelling house.
SKNVibes understands that he escaped from them which prompted officers to launch a manhunt for Liddie eventually catching up with him while he was in New Guinea where the officers made an attempt to restrain him. He reportedly attacked the police and was shot in the right thigh.
The young man was taken to the JNF Hospital where he is warded on the Surgical Ward. He, according to the police, is likely to be charged with a number of offences including escaping lawful custody.
The investigation into this matter remains active.
The authorities are making investigations into another incident which also resulted in the alleged perpetrator being shot by police.
A police press release informs that the incident transpired on the night of September 17 at Bakers Cormer. It explains that an off-duty police officer responded to a report of an altercation in that area.
“Police enquiries revealed that Daneshwar Sundar 45 years old of Lime Kiln who is also a national of Guyana and is of Indian decent was involved in an altercation with another male at Bakers Corner and when confronted by the police he was found to be armed with a machete. The police appealed to Sundar to drop the machete after he had been stopped from attacking the person with whom he was in the altercation and he refused to obey the instructions of the police.
“As a result he was shot in right leg just above ankle to prevent him from carrying out the attack. Police informed Sundar that he is under arrest for being armed with an offensive weapon. Another person is in police custody assisting the police with their investigations with regard same incident. Sundar was admitted to the JNF General Hospital in stable condition under police guard.
The Investigations into this incident are also active.
Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime (ACP Crime), Joseph Liburd told SKNVibes that charges are likely to be preferred against Sundar.
