BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AN informal crime ring which has caused the people of Nevis serious concern for the past couple of months, appears to have been disbanded with four persons in custody assisting with investigations.
According to information reaching SKNVibes, over the past couple of months, the people of Nevis have been subjected to an alarming spate of break-ins and larceny.
Sergeant attached to Nevis’ Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Alonzo Carty, explained to this media house that police in St. Kitts and Nevis have had success in their investigations into these matters.
He explained that on Wednesday and Thursday last (Sept. 15-16), police officers on both islands conducted several operations during which search warrants were executed on premises in Basseterre, Parsons and Tabernacle areas as well as the Charlestown and Gingerland areas.
The Sergeant further explained that several items were recovered as a result of the operations, among which were, flat screen televisions, computers, DVD players, stereo sets and weed-wackers, some of which were positively identified by persons whose homes were broken into during the past couple of months.
Carty indicated that four individuals, two Guyanese and two nationals of this Federation, were in police custody assisting with the investigations.
And according to a police press release issued yesterday (Sept. 22), four individuals were formally arrested and charged with larceny-related offences.
It informs that on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at about 3:00 in the afternoon, 22-year-old Alexander Mills of Long Point, Nevis and 22-year-old Rannel Carmichael of Gingerland were each charged with three counts of “building breaking and larceny”. It further explained that 22-year-old Clinton White of Fiennes Avenue, Basseterre and 24-year-old Yogashwarnauth Balgobin of Cane Garden Nevis but who resides at Middle Island, St. Kitts, were charged with “receiving”.
Sergeant Carty extended words of gratitude to the general public for the role it played in assisting the police with its crime-fighting efforts. He implored the public to continue in this vein as the relationship between police and public continues to be strengthened.
He also thanked the police officers of St. Kitts and of Nevis for their “hard work and dedication” throughout the investigations of these matters.
Investigations into the matters, however, are still under investigation.
