BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 24TH 2010 (CUOPM) – The new Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, His Excellency Miguel Li-Jey Tsao has been welcomed to the twin-island Federation by Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas.

In welcoming the new Taiwanese diplomat, when he paid a courtesy, Prime Minister Douglas noted that the Republic of China on Taiwan was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with St. Kitts and Nevis 27 years ago and so “Taiwan has a special place in the hearts of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

Dr. Douglas told Ambassador Tsao that a solid foundation has been laid and he was confident that with his taking up office in St. Kitts and Nevis, the relationship between both nations will be strengthened.

He said the new Taiwanese diplomat was assuming office at a time when St. Kitts and Nevis continues to pursue the transformation of the economy and reiterated the commitment to champion the rights and aspirations of the people of Taiwan.

Ambassador Tsao promised that as the new Resident Ambassador he will ensure that St. Kitts and Nevis provides assistance to the Federation as both nations strengthen its long standing relationship.
He said he looked forward to future bi-lateral discussions.

Ambassador Tsao issued an invitation to Prime Minister Douglas to visit Taipei as guest of the President of the Republic of China on Taiwan.
