CHARLESTOWN NEVIS (June 20, 2006) -- Two London based taxi drivers are currently on Nevis for a first hand experience of what Nevis offers as a tourism destination.

Mr Dean Carney and his daughter Shannon and Mr John Batpezzato and his wife Cindy arrived in Nevis on Saturday June 17, 2006 for one week at the invitation of the Nevis Tourism Authority.

According to Ms Helen Kidd, the Authority's Chief Executive Officer, both men are ambassadors for Nevis and have been driving taxi cabs emblazoned with Nevis and other images of Nevis around London for the past year.

She said the Authority saw it as a fitting gesture to have both men experience Nevis first hand.

"Both gentlemen have been invited over to the island with their families to enjoy the images that are on their cabs and they can see first hand.

When they go back home they can tell people in London all about the joys of Nevis and why people should come here," she said during a luncheon, also attended by local taxi drivers at the Hermitage Plantation Inn on Monday June 19, 2006.

Junior Minister in the Ministry of Tourism Hon Livingstone Herbert, who together with Ms Kidd rode in one of the taxi's in 2005, welcomed both taxi drivers to Nevis said he was certain that with their first hand experience, both men would be better positioned on their return to London to market Nevis.

He urged both visiting taxi drivers to enjoy the warmth and hospitality of Nevisians adding, "I am sure that you will take fond memories back to London and hopefully next year we will see a lot more of you and others as we promote tourism here in Nevis."

Meantime, during brief remarks Mr Carney expressed gratitude on behalf of his colleague and their families for the warm welcome.

He said the beauty of Nevis was reflected in the warmth and kindness of its people and gave his assurance that on their return to London they would be able to pass on that message even better than they had done before.
