BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SKNVibes has received the scoop on the six contestants confirmed for this year’s National Carnival Queen Pageant and we are pleased to announce that this year’s pageant will be very competitive.

Soon-to-be 20 year-old, Rolhensha Henry of  Harris’ will be vying for the title of National Carnival Queen 2010. Popularly known as ‘Rolhy’ she first made her mark in the popular TV show Kittitian Superstar where she placed second in the competition.

That position did not deter her as the young lady pursued a solo career, released a hit video and single ‘Defend It’ and was the only local female artiste featured in  this year’s St. Kitts Music Festival.

The second contestant is also popularly known from Kittitian Superstar, but in the capacity of co-host/critique, Judy ‘Purple’ DuPont who resides in Sandy Point.

Although the pageantry stage may be new to DuPont, the spotlight will certainly not scare her as she gained a wealth of experience from co-hosting Kittitian Superstar. She aspires to be the first female Pilot from St. Kitts which will certainly welcome much attention.

The third contestant is 24 year-old Michelenia Mills who has had several experiences onstage which began when she won the Miss Labour Pageant. She also has competed in the Miss Venus Anguilla Swimsuit Pageant where she placed second runner-up.

She is no stranger to the fashion world and she articulates a true love for the performing and visual arts.
The fourth contestant is Abigail Liburd; she seems to be a very quiet reserved young woman who is in the teaching profession. She attended the Washington Archibald High School and also the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College.

SKNVibes is unaware of any previous experience that she may have had in pageantry.

The fifth contestant gained experience onstage when she entered the Miss Silver Jubilee Pageant in 2008. Kimani Phillip is also a local model with S Model Management and describes herself as an assertive, optimistic person who aspires to be an Accountant.

And finally the sixth contestant is no stranger to the stage, Iantavian Queeley, who has entered numerous pageants. It all began when she first won the Miss Washington Archibald High School Queen Show, and also a regional talented teen competition.

The 5’8” beauty also models and even tried out for America’s Next Top Model back in 2007.
The caliber of the contestants is also matched by that of the chairperson as former National Carnival Queen (2000-2001) Nicole Gumbs has now taken up that task.

Gumbs is also the former Miss HTA Queen and made the Federation proud when she became the second contestant from St. Kitts to win the prestigious Miss Jaycees Caribbean Pageant in 2001.

Ms.Gumbs indicated that the pageant will be held under the theme, ‘Experience, Unite, Evolve, Aspire’ which supports and embodies the pageant and also society.

Gumbs explained that Experience was used as the show would be a whole new experience not only for the contestants but also chaperones and sponsors. Unite- encourages the contestants to come together as one and also encourages society on a whole to come together.

She said with Evolve they are hoping that at the end of the show win or lose the contestants should evolve  and grow, while Aspire represented the fact that they are hoping the contestants would have new goals to achieve after the pageant.

The new sensational six contestants are said to be talented, beautiful and charming contestants who will certainly put on a great show this year.

“We have a few who are new to the stage, we have some who are eager, we have fresh faces and also some who are well known,” she said.

Gumbs said that she is looking forward to her new role as chairperson of the pageant and is excited to be a part of the changes for this year.

The public will receive the opportunity to view the contestants for themselves at the launch of The National Carnival 2010 on Saturday October 16, at The Circus.

The pageant will take place at Carnival Village on December 28.
