BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, OCTOBER 6TH 2010 (CUOPM) - Anguilla’s Battle For Freedom 1967 – 1969 – which also chronicles the June 10th 1967 attempted overthrow of the lawfully elected Government of Robert Bradshaw by the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and a group of Anguillians was scheduled to be launched in the Anguillian capital on Tuesday night.

First published in 1987 as Anguilla’s Battle For Freedom, 1967, by Anguillian historians Colville Petty and Nat Hodge, the new and updated edition includes a chapter on the 1969 British invasion of the island thus British invasion of the island thus the new title: Anguilla’s Battle for Freedom 1967-1969.

The impressive 216-page book is primarily a descriptive account of the main events of the Anguilla Revolution like, for example, the expulsion of the St. Kitts police on 30th May 1967; and the armed attack on St. Kitts by Anguillan freedom fighters, on 10th June 1967, in attempt to overthrow Bradshaw’s Government.

According to the book’s blurb, Anguilla’s Battle For Freedom 1967-1969 is a masterful recount of Anguilla’s revolutionary history.

The voices of the past speak to us from the pages giving us insight into the hearts of men and women who, with nothing but faith and not belief in their cause, set out to free Anguilla. And it observes that “with poignant clarity and striking realism, Petty and Hodge bring to life the story of an island where the traditional values of determination, dignity and self respect ingrained in a people, oppressed by deprivation and neglect, ignited a revolution.

Anguilla’s Battle For Freedom 1967-1969 is about a critical turning point in the history of Anguillan people, and thus deserves a place in their homes and schools if they are to truly appreciate and honour the sacrifices which the heroes and heroines of the Revolution made in the process of laying the foundation for a free, peaceful, tolerant and prosperous Anguilla.

The main outlets for the book are: the Anguillan newspaper office, Cauls Pond Road, Stoney Ground, Coral Reef Bookstore, Little Harbor; The Anguilla Drug Store, The Valley; and Heritage Collection Museum, East End.
