Miss Clair A. Ottley
Press Release

Come take a journey with me, back in time, to a village painted with vivid shades of green: lime green and yellow green. Complimented with the bright, fiery red flowers of the flamboyant trees; dazzling golden sunshine; diamonds in the luminous blue sea as it glitters and glistens under the shimmering rays of the sun. It was to this majestic masterpiece Ms Clair Ottley was received to the parents of Mr and Mrs Benito Ottley, on the warm day of January 5th 1982.

The family resided in Newton Ground, however after the untimely death of her father while Clair was still a ‘tot’, her family migrated to the village of St. Pauls in an effort to be closer to maternal siblings. Clair is a country-girl at heart, she lives by the motto: “love those who despise you, do good to those who hurt you.”

As “Education is the key to the future,” from a tender age, Clair was inducted into the education system as she attended the “Community Preschool”. She then received her primary education at the St. Paul’s Primary school, before attending the esteemed Sandy Point High School. The foundation received at these institutions of learning prepared Clair to accept the novelty of a College Education at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) where she successfully pursued studies in History, Sociology and Literature. In 2007, Clair re-joined the student body of CFBC when she entered the Teacher Training Program. Presently, Clair is posted at the Sandy Point High School in the capacity of an Un-trained Teacher while she completes certification.

A born athlete, Clair has been an ambassador of sports not only for the institutions at which she received her formal education, but also for her country. This interest in Track and Field started early in Clair’s life when it was apparent that she had a natural ability when as a junior at the St. Pauls Primary School, Clair challenged the seniors in a long distance races and emerged champion. Her athletic abilities continued to develop during her years at the Sandy Point High School. Clair dominated the long distance races and was always a member of the winning squad when the ‘Inter-School championships’ were held. Clair has also represented her country in the athletics at the regionally.

For this inaugural Teacher’s Union Pageant, Clair represents the discipline of Humanities which embody the stories and ideas that help us make sense of our lives and our world. Like a compass guiding a sailor on unchartered waters, Humanities introduces us to people we have never met, places we have never visited, and ideas that may never have crossed our minds. By showing how others have lived, helps us to make good decisions. Humanities assess what is right and wrong, what is true or fiction while highlighting our heritage and history. Humanities help us address the challenges we face together in our families, our communities, and our nation.

Make it a date on October 8th, Carnival City at 8:00pm. Come on out and support Teachers in a showcase with a difference!
