Basseterre, St.Kitts - The 1st Annual Family Walk and 5k Run held on October 2, 2010 was enjoyed by over 400 participants and volunteers who celebrated family and healthy living by partaking in the 2k Family Walk or engaging in the competitive 5k run. The event took place on the beautiful Frigate Bay Golf course (normally off-limits for such activities), with an enjoyable funfair and Marriott BBQ afterwards.
The event was attended by distinguishable members including The Prime Minister the Honorable Dr. Denzil Douglas who gave a warm welcome speech. Following the event, awards were distributed by local celebrity Kim Collins to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd female and male winners of the 5k run.
The goal of the inaugural fundraiser event was to raise $75,000EC to finance imperative capital improvements at the St. Christopher Children’s Home. The overwhelming positive response from the local community helped drive the amount raised to a little over EC $120,000. These funds will go a long way to assist the Home in both its capital requirements and current operating shortfalls.
