Skywalker returns to enhance Hitters fortunes

Marvin ’Skywalker’ Davis
St. Kitts Sports News Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - National player and current Barry University forward Marvin “Skywalker” Davis interrupted his studies at the University to return home to improve his Rams Hitters team’s chances of a victory in the much anticipated Game 2 of the SKABA Premier Division Semifinals series against the Defending Champions Horsfords Ghetto Roots.

The game was scheduled for Sunday October 3rd and the anticipation was definitely at a fever pitch at game time when both teams took to the court to begin what could have been touted as the match of the season. Speculation of Skywalkers return was rife prior to the scheduled Game 2 as many observers declared that although Hitters was able to pull off the Game 1 victory it would be a tall order for them to also win Game 2 with the same line-up.

The Ghetto Roots opted to go with the same line-up despite having the option of themselves bringing home their overseas based players including Bellevue University Power Forward William Natta who was an integral part of the team’s success last season. According to Dwayne Sturge a member of the Ghetto Roots Coaching staff it was felt that the team had the right mix of players to easily win Game 2 and eventually Game 3 and the series so exercising the option of bringing home players was not necessary.

“We have no intention of engaging any of our overseas based players, at least at this point,” said Sturge. “We are of the view that even with our many injuries our players are still talented enough and the team good enough to win this series despite our opening game loss,” he continued.

However all the hype surrounding the Game was dissipated as rain forced the postponement of the game before the opening tip-off.  The Game was re-scheduled for Tuesday but again inclement weather forced a further postponement. The Game has now been scheduled for Sunday October 11th at 8:15pm at Basketball City. It is unclear if Davis will still be on island come Sunday .

Davis joined the Barry University Buccaneers squad after transfering from Santa Fe Community College before the 2009 season. Since joining the Bucs he played in 28 games, starting 15  and averaging 7.6 points and 3.9 rebounds with  57.2 shooting percentage from the field. He Scored in double-figures eight times, including a season-high 22 points in 77-68 win at Florida Memorial on Dec. 9 .He  had one-double-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds on Dec. 5 against Florida Southern . Also had a season-high four blocks against the Mocs .  Had five games in which he shot perfect from the field, including a 5-of-5 performance against Rollins in the NCAA Regional.

The Game on Sunday  is a must win for Ghetto Roots as a loss will result in their elimination.
