BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE first ever St. Kitts Teacher’s Union Pageant which was scheduled for tonight (Oct.8) has been postponed until Friday, October 15.

According to a release sent by the President of the St. Kitts Teachers Union (SKTU), Ron Dublin, because of the inclement weather the pageant has been rescheduled for October 15 at Carnival Village.

The competitors are: Miss Science & Technology, Alaynique Thompson, who will be representing Beach Allen Primary; Miss Physical Education, Michelle Taylor of Washington Archibald High; Miss Languages, Tassanna Kelly of Irish Town Primary; Miss Music, G. Deslyn Richards, who will be representing the Ministry of Education; Miss Arts, Nicola Thompson of Basseterre High School; Miss Business, Claire Ottley  of Charles E. Mills Secondary School; and Miss Home Management, Asha Jones-Woodley, also of the Charles E. Mills Secondary School.

The pageant will be held under the theme ‘Building Strategic Partnerships Investing in Teachers Now’.

According to the pageant’s organiser, Jennifer Belle, the vision of the Union, which would be realised through the hosting of the pageant, is to promote the teaching profession, market the concept of the teachers union and to raise revenue for the projects and the programmes of the SKTU.

The contestants will compete for the top position in Disciplined Speech, Professional Wear, Performing Talent, Evening Wear and Onstage Interview.

Training sessions have already started for the contestants, and the facilitators include Carlene Henry-Morton, who is preparing the ladies for public speaking and answering questions for the Onstage Interview. Another facilitator is Jason Amory, who is conducting training in modelling and deportment, while Julie Martin is conducting training sessions in budgeting, skin care and providing guidelines in an effort to ensure the pageant is produced at the highest possible standard.

In addition to Jennifer Belle, Yvette Herbert, Valarie Mason and Jennifer Williams are members of the Pageant Committee.

There will also be a calypso segment on the night of the show, which is being coordinated by Violet Gordon.
