LYLAA Thanks Mr. Austin Weekes and Mrs. Celia Christopher for Invaluable Support

LYLAA 2008 Awardees
Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - The Liamuiga Youth Legacy Awards Association recognizes the invaluable support and contributions of Mr. Austin Weekes, Manager of the St. Kitts Craft House, and Mrs. Celia Christopher, Acting Director of Gender Affairs. Founder Ms. Mutryce A. Williams said that although LYLAA was founded as an organization that recognizes young persons and is lead by young persons, there are two individuals who have provided invaluable support and assistance to the organization.

Austin Weekes and Celia Christopher have been lending their support and resources to the organization since its inception in 2005. Mutryce said, “When I approached Mr. Weekes with the request for the St. Kitts Crafthouse to provide us with plaques, he gladly obliged. We all know how costly plaques are.

These plaques have added quite a distinction to the organization and past Awardees display them proudly in their homes and offices. Mr. Weekes could have refused. He could have said that his workers were quite busy or that he did not see the benefit to him or the St. Kitts Crafthouse by donating these plaques. The organization was not a proven one, when I approached Mr. Weekes LYLAA was in its conceptual stage. It was not so much that Mr. Weekes donated the plaques but what I valued most was that he took the time to listen to the idea and then provided suggestions.”

Mutryce noted that the contributions of Mrs. Celia Christopher should not go unrecognized either. “Mrs. Christopher, who is not only a women’s advocate but also a people and youth advocate, has lent her support in so many ways. I recall when I was feverishly trying to draft and print the programs and invitations for the first LYLAA ceremony, Mrs. Christopher stopped what she was doing and helped me. When some of the plans fell through and I was panicking she told me to calm down, she made a couple of calls and viola it was done. She assisted with everything; guest list, protocol, the flowers for the table, transportation for the podium; this was in fact her car, and putting out chairs.”

Mutryce said that Mr. Weekes and Mrs. Christopher have attended and participated in every LYLAA Award and that the organization and past Awardees owe them a debt of gratitude for the role that they have played in not only sustaining the organization but also its inception.
