St John's, Antigua – Veteran allrounder Wilden Cornwall has been named to captain the Leeward Islands in the upcoming West Indies Cricket Board 50-Over Tournament, which runs from October 14 to 24. The 37-year-old, who has been a stalwart in the Leewards team for the past decade, led the team in the WICB Caribbean T20 in July and has been asked to continue. The Vice Captain is Javier Liburd, the 23-year-old allrounder who has been in the team for three seasons.

The team’s strength is in the bowling department with the attack being led by West Indies fast bowlers Gavin Tonge and Lionel Baker. They will also be depending on experienced off-spinning allrounder Omari Banks, West Indies A Team leg-spinner Anthony Martin and the fast-improving off-spinner Justin Athanaze. They will be without veteran batsman and former captain Runako Morton, who suffered a shoulder injury during the WICB Caribbean T20 and has not been selected for this tournament.

The Leewards will have two warm-up matches against the Windward Islands on Sunday and Monday at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium. They will travel to Jamaica on Tuesday. During the WICB 50-Over Tournament they will play in Group B alongside Barbados, Sagicor High Performance Centre and Guyana. Their opening match is against the Bajans on Friday, October 15 at Sabina Park.

FULL SQUAD: Wilden Cornwall (Captain), Javier Liburd (Vice Captain), Montcin Hodge, Chesney Hughes, Steve Liburd, Omari Banks, Jahmar Hamilton, Jacques Taylor, Justin Athanaze, Anthony Martin, Lionel Baker, Gavin Tonge, Gavin Williams, Calvin Williams.
