Potchefstroom, South Africa -- The West Indies Women made it three wins a row as they brushed aside Sri Lanka by nine wickets, with more than 21 overs to spare, in their ICC Challenge match on Saturday. This superb victory followed their other wins by 148 runs over the Netherlands and by 165 runs over Ireland.

The bowlers started the great work dismissing Sri Lanka for 165 off 48.3 overs on a good pitch at the North West University Ground 1. Off-spinner Anisa Mohammed was the best bowler with 4-26 from her 10 overs to win the Player-of-the-Match award. It was her career-best performance surpassing the 3-13 she took on Thursday against the Irish. She is now the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with nine wickets at an average of 6.66 per wicket.

Mohammed, who is Vice Captain, said: “It was a great day for me and the team. I always do well against Sri Lanka so I went into the match with great confidence. I am also very happy that I again beat my career-best. I got 3-13 against Ireland and today I did even better. As a bowler I believe I am getting better and better with every match. We have a big match against South Africa tomorrow [Sunday] and I’m ready for that one. I hope to be at my best for that one too.”

After the bowlers did their job, the Windies batters easily erased the target as they sped to 166-1 off just 28.4 overs. Juliana Nero cracked a brilliant 52 off 47 balls with seven boundaries. She added an opening stand of 91 off just 73 balls with Stafanie Taylor, who ended on 68 not out from 80 balls.

Taylor continued her excellent batting in the tournament. Today’s knock followed the 147 against the Netherlands and 72 against Ireland. After Nero was out Captain Merissa Aguilleira came in and made a breezy 37 not out, to follow up her career-best 44 on Thursday. She added an unbroken second-wicket stand of 75 with the rick-solid Taylor.The Windies lead the tournament standings with a maximum six points with a Net Run Rate of +2.894 from their three matches. South Africa also has six points from their three matches with a Net Run Rate of +2.214. The two front runners will face each other on Sunday at West University Ground 1.
