Big Edwards
By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE big man, Big Edwards, whose song was rated as one of the most popular for last year, is back again to make a buzz in the calypso arena.

He recently released his two contending songs, ‘Pothole Dodging’ and ‘Gun Man’, for this year’s National Carnival with hopes of making it to the Calypso Monarch Finals.

The first song, ‘Pothole Dodging’, speaks about the numerous potholes on the roads. Edwards said the idea came to him after he got a flat tyre and damaged one of his car rims along the Frigate Bay Road some weeks ago.

He said it seems as though everyday a new pothole appears and nobody seems to be paying attention to them; therefore, he is trying to get his message across to the parties concerned.

In the song, Edwards states that he would like the Prime Minister to make him the “Minister of Roads” because he would fix them so good they would be better than the Bypass.

The other song, ‘Gun Man’, relates to the unnecessary shooting of innocent people.

Both songs are self-written and according to Big Edwards, “Not because I did not make it to the Semi-finals and I am not given any recognition in St. Kitts would deter me from singing. I went to England and people knew my song from last year and said how much they love it.”

In last year’s competition, Edwards’ renditions were ‘Lights Gone Again’ and ‘Welcome Home’.
